Prize Giving 2008

Pupils who sat their GCSEs this summer returned to school to receive their certificates and individual subject prizes. The evening began with a welcome from this year’s Head Boy and Head Girl, followed by piano pieces by pupils. Headteacher Nigel Poole reported on the past year’s achievements, and the Guest Speaker, actress Liz White, presented the prizes and trophies. Liz entertained the audience with tales of her career, including starring with Philip Glenister and John Simm in the BBC1 hit time travel series, “Life On Mars” where she played policewoman, Annie Cartwright. There was a retiring collection for Liz’s nominated charity - Dramatic Need, which sends out volunteer artists, actors and musicians to some of the most challenged communities in South Africa to help children living through terrible hardships by running workshops and classes. When the formal ceremonies were over, pupils, parents and guests gathered in the foyer for drinks and enjoyed catching up with friends.
